Superb IdeasReview date: 2006-12-20 Rating: 10 out of 10Probably best for the web designers out there rather than the true graphic designers. When you're coming up with concepts it's a great book to flick through to find ideas for colour combinations.Mighty midget of a book!Review date: 2006-04-26 Rating: 10 out of 10This pocket sized wonder stands at only 4.5" wide and 1" thick. With a simple no-nonsense layout, there are 4 different colour blends on each one of its 350 pages. Each colour blend is displayed in 3 ways: the colours in stripes next to each other, then in a small repeat pattern, then in a simple picture. All these make it easy to see how the colours will work on yourr project. (if you click on the small thumbnail of the book at the top of this page, then you can browse through the first few pages of this book to see just what i mean) Every colour has the CMYK, RGB and hexidecimal codes with it for reference.
the colour batches are divided into 'moods'. for example, the first batch is BASIC primary and secondary colours, then there are the ACTIVE colours, then the QUIET colours etc.. this again makes it easy to pinpoint the colour combinations to the type of mood that you are trying to convey in your work.
At the very back of the book is a template page where you can cut out a small square shaped hole that fits exactly over each of the colour combination swatches, so that you can see what they look like in isolation against a plain black or plain white background.
I guess that this book is timeless and is one of those that will provide real-world assistance. This will probably be one of the most used and most useful tools on your bookshelf....and to think that comes in such a small package...real pocket dynamite!IndispensibleReview date: 2005-06-05 Rating: 10 out of 10A superb little book containing over 1100 colour combinations identified by CMYK and RGB values. It's divided into 11 chapters by colour pallete (eg. Muted, Rich, Natural etc), with each chapter subdivided into a number of complimentary colour combinations. No waffle, just swatches. This is one of those rare books you'll still be using every day in 10 years time, when the pages are dog-eared and held together by selotape. If you design for print you need this book.
A concise and useful resource for checking press coloursReview date: 2002-05-15 Rating: 8 out of 10I'd lost my pantone colour chart and needed a quick print-colour reference guide to choose some colours for an ad. I came across this totally useful little book by chance and it has since become indispensible. Colours are grouped in "themes" with swatches of flat colour and illustration examples so you can quickly see how they look in combination. Palettes are also laid against black and white backgrounds - very useful. All swatch colours are listed with their CMYK and RGB components. It would probably be a mistake to use this as a bullet-proof reference, but for magazine publishing, I reckon the colour information is accurate enough. A great resource for colour inspiration when starting a design and small enough to carry in your pocket. Great!
